Synopsis of a Typical Child's World Session

SESSION START-UP

  • Programme orientation
  • School tour
  • KPM Approach to Children discussion
  • Initial meeting with senior KPM teacher (‘session tutor'). The session tutor meets with the participant after school each day throughout the session. Such meetings may cover events of the school day, aspects of the KPM Approach to Children, pedagogical techniques or curricular issues, or other issues of interest to the participant.

THE SCHOOL WEEK

  • Pairing with KPM Teacher: The participant is paired with a KPM teacher for each school day. Over the course of the session, the participants will get to know a number of teachers and the children they work with and participate in activities or classes across the full range of subjects. Observation of the teacher-child relationship in action is the most direct introduction to the KPM Approach to Children. Each day's school experience will be expanded on by the after-school discussion with the participant's session tutor, and given further structure by the weekly workshops.
  • Trainee Meeting: The participant will attend a weekly meeting for KPM trainee teachers. In this meeting, different aspects of the KPM Approach to Children will be discussed.
  • Weekly Workshops: The participant will attend workshops, each week, on the KPM Approach to Children, pedagogy, and curriculum. Topics for the workshops include:
